This book was perfect. I seriously love it and want to marry it.Every time I had to stop reading I kept wondering what was happening to the people in this story. Finally, I opened it on my phone and just read it at a party while pretending to be mentally present.
The story has so many great elements- post apocalyptic world, beautiful romance, suspense, action, and lovable characters.
I'm not gonna sugar coat it, In the apocalypse bad things happen and good characters die.. tragically.
I'm thankful there is a happily ever after for some of these much loved characters such as Airen, Abby, Joseph and others. S M Shade is an amazing writer! I have read a series of painfully bad books recently, I was in a book funk. Any book lover knows you don't find a great new author everyday, I'm so happy to discover S M Shade and to hear that A,A,&J's story continues. I highly recommend this book and will be following this series.

Ya know, I really loved the book but, I gotta ask, is the author ugly, and has many deep rooted self esteem issues? Cause it kept going back to that.I mean, just how many times do we have to see that she has issues with being ugly? To the point of her living out the ultimate fantasy to make her feel beautuful; not one but two beautiful men love her now..................I could have used more of the day to day survival issues they had to face and more engenious adaptations to their new life after the apocalypse. And hey I totally understand ugly issues, I too thought I was ugly, my whole life, but at age 62, and I look at my pictures of my life, I say to myself, I wasnt ugly, how come I couldnt see that? I hope if you have those issues you will know that ugly truly is as ugly does, to quote Forest Gump
This is a tough book to rate. I thought the world created was really good (end of the world apocalypse with never really explaining what happened) but then the main character hooks up with a guy who used to be a TV star. He's overly gorgeous and she refers to herself as ugly but she has a heart of gold that makes up for the lack of attractiveness. Book moves along at a good pace, then all of a sudden spins into bi-sexual/homosexual weirdness that really didn't assist the story. I was confused by the turn it took and thought I was getting more of an sci-fi book so I looked it up and, my fault, it does have a listing as Bi-sexual romance. Regardless, it was still an incredibly dark, twisted look at life after most of mankind has been virtually wiped out.
I really enjoyed this book and I can't wait to read part 2. That being said, I had a hard time getting past Abby and her self image. Abby has a lot of self doubts about her looks and size. That is normal for most women. But you would think after a bit she would learn to accept her looks/size but the Author seems to be hung up on it.
I loved the concept of this book. The end of the world with out all the Zombies makes for a great read(after you skim past every mention of Abby's self doubt, which is at least once per chapter). In a society that has to be it's own judge, jury and executioners you will have murder, deaths and misunderstanding. You will all so have the loyalty and love that you would expect in people that find each other to start over with.
As a Walking Dead fanatic, as well as a writer of zombie apocalypse/romance fare, I was curious to see how the author handled the romantic aspect. That can be tricky, let`s be honest. While there are no zombies in this book there has been a plague that wiped out most of the population. Taking out the squicky zombies works to make this world a little less gory but no less tense. The characters are engaging, the romance is sensual, and the plot is tight. While survival isn`t an issue (these lucky folks have AC, DVD players, and gaming consoles) staying alive is. Fear the living. Words to live by. Overall this is a clever book with nice twists and an enjoyable romance set in a bleak and dangerous world.
S.M. Shade drew me in immediately. This book and series, are one of my favorites in the past several months. It has everything I look for in a fantastic read. There is drama, action, turmoil, love, hot sex, and amazing emotional ties. I fell in love with the characters, especially Abby, Airen, and Joseph. Shade has created characters that will become a part of your heart and stay with you forever. I felt every emotion possible reading these books. I felt true happiness, love, fear, anger, and complete heartache. This story made me smile, laugh, growl ) 'and cry like a baby. She did all of this in a setting different to any I have read in this type of genre which makes it refreshing and new. This is a must read series and one I know I will revisit time and again.
I was so unexpectedly swept away by this book - I certainly didn't expect to well up during Abby's drunken confession to Airen. That was a heart-renching scene. I didn't anticipate laughing outloud at Carson mocking his dad's deep-voiced admonitions. The entire read was just a rollercoaster ride. I couldn't bring myself to put it down, and then when I did, found myself excited, anticipating returning to it.
The characters were relatable, original and authentic, each scene gripped you and drew you in; the emotion and dialogue felt real, the relationships were complex and truthful, the sex was hot yet didn't overwhelm the wonderful tale. I only wish, 1) we'd been given a more detailed look at Abby - for a woman so concerned and convinced of her 'ugly' aesthetic I would have liked to have seen her more/more of her and her perceived imperfections through both her eyes and those of others, and 2) that Uno didn't feel quite so random and tacked on in his appearances. Otherwise loved it.
